Setting up GL.iNet Routers for ZipFibre nbn®
Applies to Models: GL-AX1800 and GL-BE9300
This guide covers a basic setup using IPoE (DHCP), which is the standard connection type for most ZipFibre services.
What you need
- Active ZipFibre service
- NBN connection box (FTTP or HFC modem)
- GL.iNet GL-AX1800 (Flint) router
- Ethernet cable
Step 1 – Connect the hardware
1. Plug an Ethernet cable from your NBN connection box into the WAN port on the router
2. Power on the router
3. Connect your computer or phone to the router (WiFi or LAN cable)
Step 2 – Access the router
1. Open a web browser
2. Go to: 192.168.8.1
3. Set an admin password when prompted
Step 3 – Configure IPoE (DHCP)
1. Go to Internet
2. Select Cable or DHCP (Automatic IP)
3. Click Apply
Step 4 – Confirm it’s working
Check:
- Internet status shows connected
- Websites load normally
- Run a speed test
If it does not connect:
- Power off both the NBN box and router
- Turn the NBN box back on first and wait 2–3 minutes
- Then power on the router
Step 5 – Set up WiFi
1. Go to Wireless
2. Set your WiFi name (SSID)
3. Set a strong password
4. Ensure both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are enabled
WiFi placement (important)
Router placement has a major impact on performance.
Recommended placement
- Central area of the home
- Elevated position such as a desk or shelf
- Open space with minimal obstructions
- Close to where you use internet the most
Avoid placing it
- Inside cupboards or cabinets
- Behind TVs
- Near large metal objects
- In garages or corners of the house
